Iran’s Minister of road and urban development will visit Iraq before long in an offer to seek after a plan to connect the railroad systems of the two adjacent nations.

According to Abbas Akhoundi, Iranian minister, Iran’s railroad track will be reached out up to Shalamcheh and then associated with Iraq’s railroad by means of a bridge.

The transport ministers of Iraq and Iran have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the railroad transportation collaboration development last December 31. Under this deal, the two parties consented to construct 37 km of railroad connecting the Shalamcheh in Iran and Basra in Iraq, consequently connecting the two railways of these two nations.

This project will make it workable for the neighboring nations to elevate the volume of their economic transactions and business by transport of more passengers and cargoes.

The agreement sees the 700-meter suspension bridge development to connect over Arvand River as an imperative for Iran-Iraq railroads development.

Akhoundi reported, “I will visit Iraq today to discuss the details of the issue with the Iraqi side and reach an agreement.”

Meanwhile, Mohammad Baqer Nobakht , the representative for the Iranian administration, confirmed that the cabinet has issued the request to connect Iran’s railroad system to Iraq.

He said, “This project can be beneficial for further communication between the two neighboring countries and the two nations, especially for the pilgrims traveling to the holy city of Karbala.”
